ד"ר כלילה מגן מרצה וחוקרת בבית הספר לתקשורת באוניברסיטת בר-אילן ועמיתת מחקר במרכז לתקשורת בינלאומית של האוניברסיטה משנת 2012. טרם הצטרפותה לאקדמיה שימשה ד"ר מגן כדוברת של יו"ר ועדת החוץ והביטחון של הכנסת, ד"ר יובל שטייניץ. עבודת הדוקטורט של ד"ר מגן עסקה ביחסים המורכבים והייחודיים שבין ארגוני המודיעין הישראלים והתקשורת. בין 2009 ל-2011, היא שימשה כחוקרת אורחת במרכז למחקרי תקשורת באוניברסיטת בוסטון. ד"ר מגן פרסמה את מאמריה השונים בכתבי עת אקדמיים מובילים והציגה את מחקריה בכנסים בינלאומיים רבים.

 

לצד כתיבתה האקדמית מפרסמת ד"ר מגן מפעם לפעם מאמרי דעה על ענייני דיומא בעיתונות הכתובה ובאתרי חדשות. תחומי המחקר וההוראה של ד"ר מגן כוללים יחסי ציבור, תקשורת משברית ומיתוג מדינות, כמו גם תקשורת וביטחון לאומי ודיפלומטיה ציבורית. ספרה של ד"ר מגן, "חשופים בעלטה", העוסק בשירותי המודיעין והתקשורת בישראל, ראה אור ב-2017 בהוצאת אוניברסיטת חיפה וידיעות ספרים.
